Background:- Larry Flynt , the central character of the movie is owner of Famous Pornography magazine ‘Hustler”. Self-proclaimed social guardians dragged him to court.

Though he was shot, crippled but this didn’t diminished his enthusiasm to fight back for his Rights.

In the court he defends his right to publish pornography. Here are the excerpts

Larry Flynt: No. That’s just a disguise for censorship. This country belongs to me as much as it belongs to you, Mr. Leis. If you don’t like Hustler magazine, don’t read it.

court: I don’t. But what about the innocent children who gaze upon your magazine in our grocery stores?

Larry Flynt: If a kid gets caught drinking beer in a tavern we don’t ban Budweiser across the nation.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury you’ve heard a lot here today and I won’t try to go back over it all. But you have to go back in that room and make some decisions and there is one thing I want to make very clear to you before you do. I’m not trying to convince you that you should like what Larry Flynt does.

I don’t like what he does.

But what I do like is that I live in a country where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like that I live in a country where I can pick up Hustler magazine read it if I want or throw it in the trash, if that’s where I think it belongs. Or I can not buy it.

I like that right. I care about it. And you should care about it too because we live in a free country.

We say that a lot, but sometimes we forget what that means, so listen again.

We live in a free country.

That is a powerful idea. That’s a magnificent way to live. But there is a price for that freedom, which is that sometimes we have to tolerate things that we don’t necessarily like.

So go back in that room where you are free to think whatever you want to think about Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine.

But then ask yourselves if you want to make that decision for the rest of us because the freedom that everyone in this room enjoys is, in a very real way, in your hands.

If we start throwing up walls against what some of us think is obscene we may wake up one morning and realize that walls have been thrown up in places we never expected and we can’t see anything or do anything.

And that’s not freedom. That is not freedom.

I think everyone should watch this movie to understand the meaning of freedom..

But when I say freedom it doesn’t mean spitting, throwing garbage, and pissing on roads.

Article title-Coaching Factories Are Dumbing Down The IITs 

It says:-

1) Tata Steel MD, B. Muthuraman, an IIT Madras graduate, says IITs are now thriving on their “past reputation” and TISCO is “not likely to recruit” IIT graduates any longer

2) Many IIT professors too find the present crop of students lacking in creativity, and the spirit of innovation and inquiry

3) They blame the students’ blinkered, robotic approach to their studies on the fact that a large majority are products of coaching factories.

3) They call for reform of the joint engineering exam (JEE), and of the IIT curriculum as well, to develop the students’ societal awareness, communication skills and knowledge of the humanities.

The nearly 2.5 lakh students who wrote the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) a few days ago for the 4,600 seats across seven IITs were blissfully unaware of a simmering debate about the JEE system, the institutes’ curriculum and their future employability. What has triggered the discussion within the fraternity is the concern expressed by two distinguished IIT alumni about the general decline in standards of excellence at the institutes in recent years. Their remarks have questioned the calibre of students who make it into the IITs by subjecting themselves to the killing rigours of coaching factories in places like Kota and Hyderabad. The alumni seemed to conclude that these products of coaching factories—who now form, according to Wikipedia, 95 per cent of students at IITs—had a blinkered approach to education, did not recognise new ideas and had lost the spirit of inquiry and innovation. In short, elements that had built Brand IIT over the decades had now gone missing.

As Prof B.N. Banerjee touches upon his classroom experience: “JEE has spawned a system that reduces young people to automatons, in more senses than one. They not only become robots in academics, as all of us can see in our core teaching encounters, they even resemble one another in personality. Gone are the sparkling eyes and scintillating engagements that used to be the teacher’s joy…”

And if I am not convinced enough today…..it undermines everything else. Past is gone and cant be helped, future is as blurred as ever, but if I cant even b sure of today, if I cant find peace of mind even today………why am I going on.

Mind starts thinking the way, things have to turn. Oh yes it is so for some lesser mortals as myself. (Am not ready to hear ny more lectures on optimism.)

Btw I think Eagles have a better existence……….eat, and fly all the time.

We can not fool our selves by calling us a nation of morals culture and high value.Todays young generation who seems to be more intoxicated with Coke, Levis jeans and expensive mobile phones needs to have access to sexual world.The laborer who had a hard day working at the coal mine needs some entertainment.All of us (adults) need a dose of pornography once in a while in different degree. Why can’t we just have adult movies screened where only the adults get to pay and watch, or rent out DVDs to those who want to watch it in privacy? Why can’t we have pornographic magazines for sale in sealed envelope sold only to adults? In my opinion, this would actually bring down the sleaze that seems to attack young girls and adult women alike. Child rapes, Old women rapes, and all other woman rapes is quite rampant – it is not reported enough, that’s all! Sexual craving is natural and needs to be relieved. If it is pornography that can do that job, why not?

AIDS patients are growing with an alarming rate.Sooner or latter we will become the country with maximum HIV patients in the world (or did we already?). Do our people know how it spreads? Do we even know anything about it? Are we taught in schools? Why is it all hush-hush in India? Truck drivers move from city to city, visit prostitutes and keep spreading AIDS like wildfire and the local population who visit the same prostitute contract the disease and bring it home. Instead of curbing prostitution calling it immoral, we should recognize and accept it as ‘history’s oldest profession’ and that it is bound to stay even when you, I and all our grand-grand children are gone. Instead of fighting it, which is impossible, why can’t we just accept it and see how we can regulate it so that AIDS can be checked and controlled, so that prostitutes get access to hospitals and good treatment?

There is no point in banning Playboy magazine when Internet provides all the access to internet surfing generation? What’s with banning adult movies when every music video seems to beam sleaze and soft pornography into all middle-class homes during primetime? What is moral policing? Who are they? Why do we need them? Let Nobody dictate us what we should see what not?

What happened to Kama Sutra? Why are our temples adorned with fornicating gods in various positions while we don’t get to paint a nude goddess? Why are our ancient scriptures full of descriptions of lust, sex and eroticism while we don’t get to write any?Just give a think over It..
